Bayer 04 Leverkusen, founded in 1904 as the sports club of Bayer pharmaceutical company, were long known as "Neverkusen" for finishing runners-up. All that changed under Xabi Alonso in 2023/24, when they won their first Bundesliga title unbeaten — one of the most remarkable achievements in European football history.
